Dubai: The purse for the Dubai World Cup has been retained at $12million and the deadline for free nominations to the historic 25th running of the race has been extended until 20 January, 2021.

Thundering Legend: Godolphin's Saeed bin Suroor trained and Christophe Soumillon ridden Thunder Snow won the 2018 and 2019 editions of the $12m Dubai World Cup at Meydan (ERA)

Dubai Racing Club (DRC) made the announcement Saturday via a news release. Held on the final Saturday of March each year, the DWC card boasts an impressive six Group One and three Group Two races and has over the years drawn interest from the far corners of the globe. A total of 1,774 nominations were accepted from 902 horses trained in 21 countries last year.

The Silver Anniversary of the meeting was due to be run in 2020, but was eventually cancelled on account of the Covid-19 outbreak, with organisers DRC pushing the landmark edition to 27 March, 2021.

The prize money for the flagship Group 1 Dubai World Cup race sponsored by Emirates Airline has been retained at $12million. Contested over 2000m on dirt since 1996, it has been won by horses trained in France, Japan, UAE, UK and USA.

Purses for the remaining eight races are slightly reduced from the previous running, but given the challenging events over the past few months on account of Covid-19, DRC has made every effort to ensure the return of racing in safe and secure conditions.

A positive addition is the decision to modify the purse structure, allowing for payment all the way down to an eighth-place finish in all races on the night.

Connections have been invited to nominate runners by clicking on http://carnivalhorsemen.dubairacingclub.com/DWC-nomination.

The first supplementary stage for all races on Dubai World Cup day will close on Wednesday, February 10, when connections can nominate their horse for 0.1% of the prize money of their chosen race. The second supplementary stage is on 8 March, 2021, when horses can be supplemented for 1% of the prize money. The third and final supplementary stage takes place on 21 March, 2021, when horses can be supplemented into the race for 10% of the prize money.

Entry/declaration takes place 22 March, 2021.
